No more Scaredy Cats!

Image

According to the American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP), 38% of cat owners report that they themselves get stressed just thinking about bringing their cat to the vets; 60% of cat owners report that their cat hates going to the veterinarian! As a result many cats do not visit their vets as often as they should. If this describes you, “Thundershirt” is working to change that!

If your furry friend looses its purr when friends come over, going to the groomer, plane rides or just general anxiety, your solution is waiting in a Thundershirt!  Thundershirt for Cats applies gentle constant pressure to the torso, much like a hug, that calms cats when anxious or fearful. Anxiety experts believe that pressure has a calming effect on the nervous system and may release calming hormones like endorphins or oxytocin. “Using pressure to relieve anxiety has been a common practice for years,” Phil Blizzard, founder of Thundershirt said “Think of parents swaddling their newborn infant or people with autism or other various syndromes using pressure to relieve persistent anxiety.”   The Thundershirt is proven effective for over 80% of dogs and early feedback suggests Thundershirt for Cats will we be just as effective.”

Thundershirt is available in sizes small, medium and large and comes in a Heather Grey color. They can be purchased here at The Pet Palace, or you can enter our give away!

I do not have a cat. My husband had cats before and sometimes when it rains I can smell them in the dining room. We do have a dog, a grand dog actually. At least until my son wraps up his schedule.

My cat, Ned, was adopted from the Humane Society orphanage. He was actually in the last chance adoption line when I found his photo and story online. I knew we were a match when we met. They did require we spend some time together in the meeting area though, at which time Ned rubbed all over me and my purse then walked to the door and waited patiently to ho home. His paperwork said he wasn’t a lap cat or affectionate, but as soon as we got home he was snuggled in my lap with his head securely under my chin. He was just waiting for his new mom to come get him.

He was originally found on the street and scared. He has been sorely frightened by lawn mowers, blowers and large noisy machinery. One way or another we are going to try the thundershirt and see if we can get past this hurdle. There are times when we can’t comfort them and machinery and fireworks are the worst.

Thank you for caring about our feline family members.

We have one Thundershirt that we share between two kitties. Both are scared of loud noises and sudden movements. We need a medium thundershirt for Barbara, she is an adopted that has proven that it works, she is a completely different cat with it on. She gets along with the other two cats instead of stalking them and attacking them

Leonardo (my timid cat) could really benefit from this, not just on the fourth of July but every Tuesday when the garbage trucks come by (three of them over several hours) and he’s so scared of the noise that they make that he hides under the sofa and trembles. We won’t even mention vets visits least he overhear and hide some more.

  9. Wally has always been a great scaredy cat. Many of our friends have never met him as he runs and hides under the bed as soon as someone new enters the home. I wish we would have had the Thundershirt during our recent failed attempt to adopt a grown cat from the Humane Society. Wally turned into a bully and Whitey spent most of her time hiding from him. It would be amazing to win this and have the opportunity to try it out on Wally. Thank you for the opportunity.

I have 3 cats and the newest addition, Hallie, is a big scaredy cat. I adopted her last August and she hid under my claw foot tub for close to a month. I believe she was abused and was not properly socialized. It’s been a long road but she’s adjusting to me well, however she is scared of just about every noise and the slightest movement. I think the thundershirt would help calm her and hopefully she would not be so nervous. My friends and family have not seen her other than in pictures.
